Mukutan Conservancy is an 88,000-acre sanctuary on the rugged edge of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley in Laikipia, with sweeping views over Lake Baringo and a mosaic of ancient cedar forests, grass and acacia woodland, and picturesque landscapes, such as the iconic Mukutan Gorge.

Recognised as a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) and Important Bird Area (IBA), Mukutan protects critical habitats and water catchments that sustain wildlife and surrounding communities. The Gallmann Memorial Foundation’s work is rooted in an integrated model of conservation, combining nature protection, education, and community collaboration and development to foster long-term regeneration and environmental safeguarding across the landscape.

With support from the Tarbaca Indiga Foundation, the Gallmann Memorial Foundation is revitalising the Mukutan Wilderness Education Centre (MWEC) as a cornerstone for experiential education, youth learning and peacebuilding activities, improving infrastructure for senior management staff to strengthen project operations on the ground, and supporting biodiversity research and protection.
