Tailoring School for socially disadvantaged young Maasai Women in Northern Tanzania
In most Maasai communities in northern Tanzania, educational opportunities for children are limited. Due to the patriarchal social system of the Maasai, girls, in particular, have few chances to realize their professional potential and achieve financial independence.
This is where Verein Engoitoi Epuan’s Tailoring School for disadvantaged young Maasai women, located near the provincial town of Arusha, comes in. Through a one-year program, participants receive high-quality training in tailoring and gain insights into various aspects of the profession. The apprenticeship year is further enriched by additional course offerings, such as English language classes.
The goal of the project is to empower graduates by teaching them a respected and locally demanded profession. As a result, they can establish a sustainable livelihood and shape their own futures—independently, in pursuit of their own aspirations.
