Trash Hero - Raising Awareness of Plastic Pollution through Community Cleanups
Trash Hero is a global volunteer movement with the mission to bring communities together to clean and reduce waste. The network concentrates on Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Singapore), but also extends into Europe, Australia and the USA. Each chapter brings together residents, businesses, government agencies, schools, tourists and other stakeholders to take positive action on waste.
Tarbaca Indigo Foundation supports Trash Hero's flagship program "Action & Awareness", which consists of simple, low resource actions designed to bring attention to the problem of plastic pollution and motivate behavioral change with regard to the consumption and disposal of plastic products. The primary tool to engage participants are so-called "Community cleanups": On a weekly basis, the volunteers hold a cleanup in a public space like a beach, waterway or park. The events are advertised locally and on social media and open to all with no barrier to participation: “no cost, no sign-up, just show up”.
Trash Hero is led, supported and governed by Trash Hero World, a non-profit association, registered in Switzerland and composed of a network of chapters around the world.
