VIDEO WINDOW: Urban Stories. The City as Inspiration, Motif and Imagination

Dias & Riedweg, The Mirror and the Dusk, 2011

In mid-July 2022, the Zurich-based nomadic video art platform VIDEO WINDOW will be a guest at the Cinemateca do Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) de Rio de Janeiro, where it will present a diverse screening programme on the subject of major cities. This will take the form of a dialogue that brings together video art from 25 well-known positions, 21 from Switzerland and four from Brazil. The 33 videos will represent all genres of video art and cover urban settings from all around the globe, in Europe, Brazil, South Africa and Asia. These will be complemented by individual projections and artist’s talks that will offer deeper insights into the work of three positions, with a particular focus on the city of Rio de Janeiro and such aspects as architecture, tourism and social marginalisation.

The objective of URBAN STORIES is to demonstrate both the fascinating diversity of the urban realm and its huge importance for video art, while also shedding a surprising light on the debate about the accelerating pace of urbanisation worldwide.
